Pizza Layout Model Trains

  • Mmmm, Pizza Layout!

    Pizza Layout

Ever since I saw Mark Fielder’s Nn3 Pizza Layout, I’ve been hooked on these beauties. Let’s start with what a Pizza Layout is by using the Wikipedia definition:

A pizza layout is a model railway laid out as a circle of the smallest workable radius of curve, on the smallest possible square or circular baseboard. This baseboard can be so small as to look as if it would fit into a pizza box, hence the name.

I don’t feel there are hard and fast rules about size or even shape for a layout to be considered a Pizza Layout. I even think dioramas fit into this category. Here’s a small circular diorama we built recently over on the Raildig YouTube channel and while a static model, I’m ok with calling this a Pizza Layout.

I’m not big on hard and fast rules when it comes to modeling. I go more for the spirit of the project.

We have a few articles over on our Raildig site talking about Pizza Layouts but this dedicated Pizza Layout site will go (and show) a heck of a lot more.

I can see featuring lots of YouTube videos by other creators on this site showing their Pizza Layout projects. I think getting people excited about building their own Pizza Layouts is the most important thing we can do here!
